Put date, guests and duration on every request

Provide the exact date, total guest count, preferred departure time and time aboard. Identify the actual vessel proposed, not just a size category. If one quote uses a shorter charter or a different boarding point, ask for the difference to be explained before judging the price.

Separate the boat from other services

Ask whether crew, fuel and applicable taxes are included in the total or appear as separate items. Check whether the planned route changes the fuel arrangement. Confirm how any gratuity is treated rather than assuming it is included, required or absent.

If a captain or another service is arranged separately, identify who is responsible for that arrangement and how it affects the complete booking.

Define the extras your guests actually need

Discuss food, drinks, decorations, equipment, extra time and transfers only when they matter to your party. Ask what is provided, what may be brought aboard and what costs extra. This prevents comparing a basic outing against a more elaborate celebration without noticing the scope difference.

Read change and weather conditions before payment

Ask when payment is due, how a security deposit works if applicable and what happens if the date or guest count changes. Request the operator's weather and cancellation terms. A generic “weather permitting” phrase does not explain the procedure. Check marine conditions with the operating crew as the date approaches.

Your pre-booking checklist

  • Same date and charter duration
  • Identified vessel and boarding point
  • Complete crew and fuel arrangement
  • Taxes and any deposit
  • Extras requested by your group
  • Written weather and cancellation terms

A useful first message

Please quote the complete outing for our date and guest count, separating the vessel, crew, fuel, taxes and any deposit. We would also like catering as an optional item and written terms for weather changes and cancellation.
